More and more of our clients are now working with us on a retainer basis, where we look after their whole digital presence for a monthly fee. This is becoming increasingly popular and is a great option both for us as an agency and for our clients.

Advantages of working on a retainer

A deeper understanding of the client

A key advantage of working with a client on a retainer basis is that we, as an agency can build a strong partnership with the client and understand their business and, perhaps more importantly, their audience. As the relationship develops, this means campaigns can be developed more quickly and more effectively, and we can be even more proactive about suggestions and ideas to maximise the success of your strategy as we will know your business inside out.

Working closely with a client also enables us to better understand their objectives which is crucial. The better and more we can understand a client's goals and why they have the goals they do, the easier it becomes for us to build a strategy that's going to be always geared towards achieving what they need it to.

A wider range of expertise

If you have a number of projects/campaigns that run through the course of the year, or a large website, the alternative to working with an agency is often to have someone in-house working on your website strategy. Although you will often have someone in-house for more time than you would with us, you don’t get the same range of expertise or level of output you would working with us.

Generally an in-house developer will need to take care of web design, graphic design, web development and digital marketing. The chances of finding someone with a quality skillset that broad on a reasonable salary are slim to none. Working with us, you have access to a team with a specialist in each of those areas, overseen by an experienced Creative Director and with your own Account Manager. So you essentially have your own marketing team, that becomes an extension of yours at a fraction of the cost.

Our team also work on a variety of projects and accounts which, in a creative industry is hugely important in developing innovative ideas and concepts.

More cost effective

We have touched on this earlier, but it’s much more cost-effective to work with an external agency who has a specialist in each area than to hire a specialist in-house team. We can also offer better rates to clients who work with us in this way as opposed to working on one-off projects.

More agility/flexibility

Working on a retained basis means that time is set aside to work on a client during the month. This gives total flexibility to work on whatever needs to be done, so if you suddenly need to start an unscheduled campaign, we can just jump on that as required – so important if you’re working in a fast moving environment.

What’s included in a retainer

Usually we will set aside a number of days each month that can be used for whatever you need. This can include:

  • Website design/development
  • SEO
  • Content creation
  • Running PPC campaigns
  • Graphic design work
  • Social media campaigns
  • Website hosting & support

So is a retainer right for your business?

Most businesses who are looking to drive more enquiries through their website would benefit from being on a retainer – it’s much easier for us to be successful working with a client on an on-going basis. If you think that you could benefit from working with us on a retained basis then we would love to meet with you, talk through options and see what would be the right fit.
