WordPress Security - a price worth paying?
If a client wants to move a WordPress-based site to us, we'll always encourage them to engage the services of WP White Security to ensure their site is protected. This often raises the question of whether it is worth paying for WordPress security services. Robert Abela blogged about this - and I thought it worth distilling some of the key points from his excellent article.
The main objections to paying for WordPress security tend to be:
There will not be an impact on my business - in the same way that you'd insure your retail premises, investment in security should be seen as exactly that, rather than as a cost.
I can do it myself - there are a myriad of tools out there that claim to secure your site, but we've actually seen these do more harm than good! It's been to rely on the experts. Much in the same way as why we argue that you shouldn't be designing your own website!
My site will not be a target - sadly, incorrect. A lot of attacks are completely automated, and any vulnerable site is there for the taking.
Ultimately, it comes down to a question of the impact on your business and reputation. How long can you afford your site being offline whilst work takes place to repair the impact of a compromise? And, more importantly, what will the short-, medium- and long-term impact on your business?
We work closely with the team at WP White Security to ensure the security of WordPress websites that we host. To quote a recent email from a client... "Everything’s good! The security work was worth every penny! Great suggestion on WP White Security! So a massive thank you, great call!"
Do get in touch to discuss how we can help to insure the security and stability of your online presence - whether or not you are currently using WordPress! And, as always, we're keen for your feedback on Facebook or Twitter or via our website!
