Studio44 Football Team - October Update
A brief league analysis
So where are the Studio44 boys at? At the time of writing we are respectably placed 5th out of 8 teams. Check for yourself here! - http://www.soccersixes.net/site?page&lid=845
Looking at the table, it is clear that the team to beat is 'Real Madras' (sounds tasty) who also happen to have 2 separate entries into the league (A&B sides) - bit naughty if you ask me.
On the topic of controversy in the league, the aptly named 'Real Pathetic' have already caused a few stirs with their boisterous behaviour. Word on the streets of Tunbridge Wells is that they are showing no signs of calming down. Bit of a shame really, perhaps they should let their football do the talking considering they are joint 2nd place on points...
We haven't had the pleasure of playing 'Breast Rummage Albion'... wait what was that?! That’s right, if you clicked on the link before you'd have seen some rather bizzare team names. (Mini trivia: 10 points to whoever guesses which larrytech team member came up four our team name - Teccherslovakia) Anyway, by looking at their goal difference (-16) there ought to be a few opportunities for some familiar names to get on the scoresheet.
On the flipside, we haven't yet played against 'Sparthatts'... This could prove to be another interesting affair by virtue of the number of goals they've scored - a scary 23 in 4 games! We will have to make sure we have a solid warmup and set up in a more defensive formation.
New Kit
Now I promised in the last football blog that there would be some photos, and I'm afraid I'll have to half break that promise - instead to get an idea of what our kit looks you'll have to go and visit the Studio44 facebook page to see a video of some nice one touch football with a classy finish from Alex Cole.
Here's how the numbers to our dashing green and white striped kit have been dealt out.
- Paul
- Alex
- Sam
- Jack
- James
- ???
- Doug
- ???
Numbers 6 and 8 look a bit lonely, but are nonetheless ready to be taken up by the lucky players we draft in! On that note a special mention goes out to our trusty reinforcements, Bob and Matt, who have been brought in under the tutelage of Mr. Paul Dosanjh - ever the safe pair of hands in goal.
For the purposes of making this piece short and sweet (definitely not because I forgot to make notes on a few games and have consequently forgotten them) - I'll describe the events of two of our Sunday games for the past October calendar month.
But can we play on a wet and windy night in Stoke? (12th October)
This week we were a little low on numbers, with only 4 out of the usual 6 making an appearance. It was pouring it down with rain, which happened to be weirdly refreshing after the hot and sweaty weeks we endured in September. Another thing we had in our favour is that the wet conditions combined with the sandy turf made for a 'less slippy' game.
Some notable match events:
- James and Alex on the score sheet
- Sam made some great saves in goal
- 4-2 win - 4 goals up in the first half, let them have a few consolation goals to make them feel better ;)
So it turns out that - Yes, the Studio44 boys can indeed play very well in dire conditions.
A very local derby (26th October)
The last game in the October calendar month was against Camden Quarter (who serve up some great food just down the road from our office). To be blunt, it turned out to be a pretty disappointing result for us - a 5-2 loss.
It's fair to say we didn't get off to the greatest of starts- having conceded 3 goals in the best part of 5 minutes. After the siege on our 12x4 goal, we fought back first with a strike from Doug from a nice through ball by James (making up for forgetting a spare kit for Matt).
After some more attacks from CQ another goal sneaked in, and it looked like the wind had been taken out of our sails. A goal towards the end of the half brought it back to 4-2, giving the larrytech team a fighting chance. But sadly it was a little too late.
Tactics and moving forward
After a few months of playing together we've got a good idea of what works well, knowledge about the types of teams we have to face and what we could do better. Ultimately results speak for themselves and we need to up our performance level to improve our position in the table. We have been given some constructive criticism which has been taken on board as well as some proposed tactics (which we obviously cannot divulge!) This should all help us build up some winning form - so watch this space for next month’s update!
