More than £4,500 has been raised in aid of ellenor, Kent’s only charity offering hospice at home care to children, at the third Studio44 Charity Golf Day.

We held our third annual charity golf day on Wednesday 4th July at The Nevill Golf Club in aid of the ellenor charity. ellenor support seriously ill children and their families. If you want to read and see the great work ellenor do, then please head over to their website for more detail.

We had 20 teams playing on the day, with 77 players and this was therefore our biggest day yet! We also had fantastic support from lots of local businesses who contributed to the day by donating raffle and auction prizes. To see a full list of those businesses who supported the day, please have a look at the website we developed for the event.

The weeks leading up to the day were beautiful sunshine, although the forecast for the day looked a little damp. Fortunately the storm held off until Thursday and we had superb weather for the day. Golfers assembled from around midday, with all players going off different tees at 1.30 for a ‘shotgun start’.

There were a range of abilities playing, with handicaps as low as 2, and, at the other end of the spectrum, our very own Alex and Francois who play rarely but had a great day and are already thinking about how they can improve for next year. We had a number of challenges round the course, with a ‘beat the pro’ competition on the par 3 12th as well as a couple of nearest the pins and a longest drive. We also had a women’s longest drive competition which was controversially won by Michael Gadsden of Grovewood Wealth Management.

Photographer Matt Harquail took some excellent pictures on the day, which you can see by heading over to our Facebook page in due course and all golfers seemed to enjoy the day, with the golf being played in good spirits. Many of the golfers enjoyed our refreshments on the golf course, with a good supply of beer, gin and cider available throughout the afternoon and more than once we were asked to follow a group round with the drinks buggy!

After the round, there was the inevitable post-mortems of the day with many golfers sitting on the patio in the sunshine, enjoying the view over the 18th and talking through the highlights of their round. We then went upstairs for an evening meal, with Purple Pumpkin once again putting on a fantastic dinner for everyone.

After dinner, we announced the winners, with Hamer’s Hammers, led by Rob Hamer coming out on top with a fantastic nett score of 53.2 – more than 17 under par! Second place went to Peppiatt Junior, led by David Blundell, while Fox Print, led by Kevin Stanton came in third.

After the prize winners were announced, we moved on to the raffle, and Ewan from ellenor said a few words and showed a video which really does show the difference ellenor make to the families they help. The auction was then once again expertly run by Michael Gadsden, we think even his daughter Emily was impressed! This greatly helped contribute towards the money raised on the day.

The day overall was a huge success, we couldn’t have done it without the fantastic support of the players and sponsors on the day, so thank you to everyone who got involved!

We would love to hear your thoughts – feel free to head over to our Facebook page to view and comment on the photos, and we have provisionally booked in Wednesday 3rd July 2019 for the next day so do get in touch if you would like to enter a team!
