New Year's Resolutions For Your Website

It’s impossible to go on Facebook or Twitter at the moment without being bombarded with adverts for gym memberships, personal training, quitting smoking and all sorts of other New Year’s Resolution-linked messages. This set me thinking about the New Year’s resolutions businesses should be making in terms of their websites…….here’s what I think are going to be the top four for 2014!

Statistics, statistics, statistics!

It still amazes me the number of people who do not have a handle on their numbers. Whether it be total unique visitors to your website, or the number of impressions you’re getting every time you update your Facebook page, having a grip of the statistics is critical. Without the numbers, it’s absolutely impossible to test and measure – you’ll have no idea of what’s working and, more importantly, what’s not working for your business.

Going mobile

When was the last time you tested your website from a mobile phone or tablet? Being in the web business, I do a lot of surfing from my phone, and it really is surprising the number of times you’ll struggle to make sense of a site from a mobile. Either it’s a mad fight to zoom and scroll and navigate or, in the worst cases, a site may simply not work at all. Either way, give it a go and see how well your site works.

Keep it Simple

Gone are the days of needing or wanting reams and reams of content on your website. Quite simply, people will not read it! Attention spans are ever-shorter and visitors just need to be presented with the key facts, with a simple route to either contact you or make a purchase, depending on the nature of your business.

Grand Designs!

Design has always been important in terms of making a site eye-catching and appealing and encouraging users to engage especially in the fast moving, highly competitive world we live in today. Not only this but a good website design will actually help your search engine performance with lower bounce rates, an increased amount of time spent on the site by visitors and more trust. Good design will also earn more links from other sites. All of this will help your SEO so not only does outstanding design help generate enquiries from visitors to the site, it will also help you get them there in the first place!

So, on that note, I’ll leave it there! I’d be really keen to know what your top priorities are for 2014 – and have I missed anything?
