My site is down ... help!
Don’t Panic!
The first place to visit is http://isup.me/. This service checks your website from multiple geographic locations and lets you know if the issue is isolated to you, or whether it is more widespread. If it’s just you, good news. That means your site is available from elsewhere, and there’s either an issue with your local internet connection, the device you are using, or you may have locked yourself out from your website’s firewall (for example, by attempting multiple logins with the wrong login details). In this instance, get in touch with your website hosting provider, letting them know your IP address so they can advise.
If it’s not just you, and the site is showing down for everyone, your host may be having issues. Many web hosts offer service status information. For example, you can check the status of our servers as well as any current service issues. If nothing appears on those pages, again, get in touch with your hosting provider so they can advise.
In most cases, you should be up-and-running again very quickly! So – what can you do to manage and mitigate such concerns?
Know the support process
When issues arise, ensure you know who to contact and how to contact them. We host the vast majority of client websites, meaning that clients have a single point of contact for support issues – and you can raise a support request most efficiently by email to support@larrytech.com.
Understand your setup
Many cheap website hosting providers host in lower-quality datacentres or in datacentres overseas. In some cases, the company hosting your site may not have immediate control over their servers. We host all client websites in the Pulsant datacentre in Reading. We have a 24/7 hosting support team who monitor and manage the entire platform, ensuring that any potential issues are spotted and resolved before they’re even visible to clients on the majority of occasions.
Invest in reliability
Many businesses spend thousands of pounds a month on their physical presence, whether that’s office space or retail premises. However, the same companies may only spend a few pounds a month on hosting for their website, which forms a critical part of their business! We always advise clients to invest wisely, and we tend to host and support client sites on an on-going basis. For higher-traffic or higher-value sites, we can also advise on implementing technology to improve uptime and resilience even further.
Whether we look after your website or not, we’re always happy to discuss your online presence to ensure that it’s stable, secure and available when it matters – ensuring it delivers the maximum possible value to your business. Give us a call or get in contact today!
