Massive Marketing Mistakes
The amount of marketing I see online where I have to take a second glimpse to actually process what has just been said is becoming all too often. Below I have listed several points that seem to be becoming a common occurrence in the marketing world.
The first mistake comes down to promises that you cannot keep. By this the list is endless, my prime example is a sports Industry company, I came across a few weeks ago claiming a “professional service” yet there branding was so amateur it was unbelievable. Building on from the poor branding after inquiring an item on their website it turned out that the listed item had become “out of stock” although on the website this was not listed. Enough slagging off, you get what I mean… “A professional service” should operate effectively. Another classic which I could never get my head round was the “passionate” marketer or business owner yet will scream how excited they are that it’s Friday, all over their social networks.
The bold we are a “reliable company” can be a major marketing mistake. Prospective clients can see if a company is reliable by the social media or their blog. A blog that has not been updated in 5 months hints that you leave visible projects neglected, and that they lack the professionalism to see things through. In business everything counts, if you cannot live up to a claim, then don’t make the claim it is as simple as that.
Marketing needs to be an ongoing process, it is a constant never ending cycle. This helps you earn brand exposure and awareness and trust in the marketplace. If you are that company that only tends to market your services when the sales start to drop then you have no connection with your prospective clients. There is no reason to dismiss marketing it is the engine for the success of your business.
One of the most dangerous marketing mistakes for small businesses is providing a similar service to other providers within that industry. This is a dangerous game, if you are “the new boys” in the marketplace and attempt to stand out from your competitors by “going the extra mile” this will not pay deviant for the success of your business. As a business you need to show why your service is worth hiring and not the other providers… what makes you stand out?
Lastly, if your company is branded “forward thinkers” yet you operate behind an outdated and unprofessional looking website. This can result in your prospective clients thinking you either cannot afford a new website, or you are not professional enough to realise your current website is outdated. Either way your website should be a business generating machine. In order to fuel that machine you need to give it the love and attention it requires!!
