I knew there were a variety of roles available, however I didn’t know what would be a good match for me. When I started looking at degree programs I knew that getting work experience in my chosen field would be absolutely imperative in shaping what I wanted to learn and enhancing my UCAS application.

I wanted to do my work experience at Studio44, as my interest was piqued by their innovative approach to handling projects. I loved how their websites have such a refreshing and seamless feel and look, whilst successfully tailored around an individual client’s vision of their business.

During the course of my work experience week, I was given the task of recreating one of their websites. This was an exciting opportunity as it meant I could develop my experience in CSS coding, which I hadn’t had the chance to explore in my studies. There were aspects that I couldn’t understand initially which ranged from the different functions within CSS to learning the process of applying jQuery on websites. James and Alex were incredibly helpful, no matter how big or small my questions were they always took the time to explain and guide me through my queries. I was also assigned other small tasks such as researching different syntaxes like SASS, SCSS, and organizations like BNI which is a network referral organisation. This not only helped me increase my understanding of coding, but it also exposed me to the different marketing strategies that companies use to reach their consumers/clients, which I found to be very interesting. In addition, Alex introduced me to media queries which is used to make websites with a ‘responsive design’ (a site that responds to the browser and device that it is being shown on).

When I first arrived at the office I was very excited as well as incredibly nervous. I wondered whether I would be able to fit in and if everyone would find me personable. These first day jitters were unfounded, as every single member of the team was so friendly and welcoming. Everyone was always willing to help me with all my questions, with a special mention to Alex and James who took so much time out of their busy day to teach me and to talk to me about features that I had not come across previously. I am very grateful to Larry (who is by far the friendliest managing director I have ever met) for giving me this opportunity, and to all the team members that have made my time at Studio44 an extremely enjoyable and fruitful experience. I would love to be able to come back in the future when new opportunities arise for me to rejoin the Studio44 family.
