We had a number of golfers who came and joined us on the day, including local businesses, clients from further afield and members of The Nevill. We also had some fantastic support from local businesses who donated some fantastic prizes for the raffle and auction. Whenever you’re putting together a golf day in the UK, you’re worried about the famous English weather coming along and spoiling the party. We had a mixed bag this year, although it was mostly dry, with periods of sunshine and only the odd shower.

We were lucky that as the golfers teed off, the sun started shining, and we had the drinks buggy at the ready!

There were a range of abilities playing, with the elegant swing of golf professional. Todd Adcock who was on the par 3 12th for the ‘beat the pro’ challenge, being the best of the lot. There are some great photos of the golfers in action, which you can see if you visit our Facebook page.

There were some fantastic shots played, and all the golfers seemed to enjoy their round. We were also lucky to be joined by ellenor’s very own mascot, Ellie the Elephant… she didn’t hit any shots but was able to enjoy some great photo opportunities both on and off the course.

As per last year, James and I went round in a buggy keeping the golfers well topped up with a continuous supply of beer throughout the round… again, as per last year, this seemed to improve the games of some, whilst harming the games of others, but certainly added to the enjoyment of the day! We also had fantastic photos taken by photographer Matt Harquail, and Emily, our Digital Marketing Manager kept the Studio44 Facebook page active with photos and videos throughout the day.

Once the round was finished, the bar was full of tales from golfers of their rounds during the day – some of the successful golfers even had a wager on who came out on top… and of course, the bar had some heavy traffic at this point. This was followed by a typically top-notch roast that was put on by the excellent team at Purple Pumpkin.

After the dinner, we announced the winners, with the Nevill Nobblers team of Chris Bennet, David Fraser, John Benoy and Tom Hutchinson coming out closely on top and ahead of the pre-tournament favourites captained by the chairman David Blundell, who was joined by Al Mitchell, Nigel Wates and Andy Barker. 3rd place was taken by Christian’s Lions, captained by Christian Harris from Wells Money Brokers, and including Tim Doherty from Dobanti Chartered Surveyors, Mike Harradine-Cardwell from Chappell Green Recruitment and Richard Fuller.

After the winners had been announced, we heard from Katherine who was representing ellenor, and told us more about the charity, and the difference the funds raised will make. We were then privileged to be joined by Clive Emson from Clive Emson Auctioneers who conducted the auction, which helped us reach a total raised amount in excess of £5,000.

Overall, it was a fantastic event, and Katherine from ellenor commented “It’s great to see local businesses coming together to help make a real difference to the children and families that we support.” David Blundell, chairman of The Nevill Golf Club, had the following to say “It was a fantastic event and everyone was very supportive of ellenor and we were proud to be hosts to such a wonderful cause.”

We’re all looking forward to next year, please get in touch if you would be interested in participating and if you want to donate to ellenor, then please visit our just giving page.
