Charity Golf Day 2016
On Friday 16th September, we hosted our first charity golf day in aid of the wonderful ellenor charity, who support seriously ill children and their families. If you want to read and see the great work ellenor do, then please head over to their website for more detail.
We had 13 teams playing in the day, with lots of golfers coming along and showing their support for the local, Kent-based charity. We were also particularly overwhelmed by the support we had from local businesses, with many giving prizes for the auction and raffle. To see a full list of those businesses who supported us, please have a look at http://charity.larrytech.com/golf/.
Beautiful sunshine all week preceded the day, and we all had our fingers crossed that the weather would hold until the weekend. Our early optimism was somewhat dampened as the day drew nearer and the forecast for Friday started to look bleaker and bleaker, especially bad for the time we were due to be out on the course. Fortunately, however shortly after we got all golfers underway at 1.30pm, the wind and rain subsided and gave way to an overcast late afternoon and beautiful sunny early Autumnal evening.
The golf was played in good spirit, and there were golfers of all abilities, ranging from our office neighbours Centurion Warranties, who are occasional golfers to say the least to resident Nevill Golf pro Todd Adcock, who was stationed on the par 3 12th for a ‘beat the pro challenge’.

Photographer Matt Harquail took some great photos on the day, which you can see by heading over to our Facebook page. Will, our Digital Marketing Manager was also on hand to take a number of videos on the 12th tee of the golfers teeing off… again we have added these to our Facebook page, and a couple of highlights will be up in due course.
The golfers all seemed to enjoy their games, helped and to some no doubt hindered by James and me keeping them well topped up with a supply of beer throughout the afternoon. It certainly didn’t harm their enjoyment on the day, but it probably didn’t do their scores too much good!
After the round, the golfers retired to the bar for refreshments and to re-count their stories of the day as they compared their rounds with fellow competitors. We then went upstairs for a fabulous dinner, put on by Purple Pumpkin.
After dinner, we announced the winners, with Hodder’s Hackers, consisting of Dan and Bryn from Austin Recruitment, as well as Mike Herman from Interhost and Garry Gatt taking a hard fought victory over Kevin Stanton and his Fox Print. In 3rd place, were the Nevill Nobblers, led by David Fraser who beat Hamers Hammers, captained by Rob Hamer to win the final prize. This was an agonising defeat for Hamers Hammers, with a side bet between the 2 teams meaning that not only did they not win a prize, but they also lost their pride… it did, however lead to a great photo opportunity of The Nevill Nobblers posing with their prizes while Hamers Hammers can only look on.
We then held the raffle, before Katherine Mobey of ellenor gave an overview of the charity, and the fabulous work they do. Michael Gadsden of Grovewood Wealth Management then ably conducted the auction, with many of the items going for significant sums. All of this greatly helped the final figure, with in excess of £6,000 being raised.
Overall the day was a huge success, but we couldn’t have done it without the fantastic support of the players and sponsors on the day – we’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
