"Having worked with Studio44 once before when they designed a brilliant website for another charitable organisation where I was a Trustee, I was very keen for Phab to use Studio44 for their own new website.  I felt that not only did Studio44 have the design expertise but they were lovely people to work with – approachable, understanding and patient.

Phab’s experience with Studio44 has cemented that impression and they have gone above and beyond to give us exactly the website we wanted.

Our site had to cover a wide range of needs and interests - adults with disabilities, families where a child is disabled, Phab Clubs and Club Leaders, parents applying on-line for their children to go on our holiday projects, volunteers, potential donors and supporters, and Marathon runners.

We now have a bright and lively website which meets all those needs and couldn’t be more pleased with the result of everyone’s hard work."

Brief

The key objectives for the new website included:

  • Providing information and detail to those either involved with, or looking to get involved with clubs.
  • Showcasing the fun and vibrant atmosphere of Phab’s clubs and holiday projects.
  • To celebrate 60 years of Phab.
  • For the website to be more stable, and easier to update from a content management perspective.

The Project

Phab is such a well thought of charity that makes a huge difference to so many lives but their old website didn’t adequately represent the brilliant work that they do.  We decided to have a prominent focus on the Phab stories, articles and events on the homepage so that, as soon as a visitor lands on their website, they can instantly find information relevant to them.

Getting the fun and vibrant feel of Phab clubs across on the website was also hugely important. To help with this, we ensured the website had a very visual look and feel with large in-action images of Phab clubs and holiday projects instantly showcasing their positive impact. Having in depth real stories from Phab participants helped show the difference Phab makes, and the journeys participants take.

The website is regularly updated by multiple members of staff with varying levels of technical knowledge or expertise. As a result, the CMS was going to be vitally important as it was going to be used on such a regular basis. We used the Studio44 CMS for this, and built a number of bespoke elements to ensure that, no matter what level of technical ability the Phab staff had, the website would be straightforward for them to manage and update. The CMS also allows for Phab to adjust the layouts on individual pages with various layouts, whilst still keeping in line visually with the rest of the site.

Some of our favourite aspects of the Phab site include:

  • The ‘find your nearest Phab club’ feature
  • The performance of the website on a mobile device - how such a large amount of information is well presented as well as being kept easy to navigate and read on all devices
  • The colourful quotes that are showcased carefully throughout the site which really underpin the difference Phab make

The Outcome

Overall, we’re thrilled with the outcome of the Phab website – we feel that it clearly portrays this organisation’s activities and values very positively.  We’re excited to see the potential for the website as it’s such a vital resource for Phab and their members.
